New Student Info

A typical class usually consists of the following routine:

  • Arrive early, take off shoes and stretch
  • Brief warm up run
  • Line up in class order (Highest ranking belts front left, descending to white)
  • Stretches and basics
  • Forms
  • Free Style Sparring (Yellow belts and up)
  • Three Step Sparring
  • Self-defense applications or kicking heavy bag
  • Warm downs

The class atmosphere is friendly but we do follow a certain amount of discipline in class. Always pay attention to what more advanced belts are telling you: they have your best interests in mind. Please pay attention at all times and try your best. The last sentence is actually the secret to doing well in this class and in martial arts in general. Pay attention to what instructors say to you and try to put those words into action and you will do well. If you have any questions or need help with something, wait for an upper belt or the instructor to be free and ask them, they're there to help.

If you don't know what we're talking about when we say upper or advanced belt, the order of rank is as follows:

  • White (everyone starts at this level)
  • Yellow Belt
  • Green Belt
  • Purple Belt
  • Brown Belt
  • Black Belt (1st Degree, 2nd Degree, etc.)
